80329 in service and preservation[edit | edit source]
Post Office Sorting Van (POS) 80329 was built at York in 1968 to Diagram 728, Lot 30779. It was allocated to the London Midland region from entry into service in November 1968 until withdrawal in June 1999.[1]
It was one of two acquired in spring 2000 from BR's Old Oak Common, London. Both it and 80328 were acquired for use on Santa duties at Arley, taking the place of a 'Snake' and 'Siphon' which required a major overhaul.[2]
It is in Post Office Maroon livery numbered E80329 (a regional prefix that it did not carry in service). It is normally stored at Kidderminster, being used as Santa's Grotto at Arley during December until 2018, with alternative Christmas services arrangements brought in from 2019. It is owned by SVR(H).
