The Severn Valley Railway is home to a number of diesel locomotives. These are used for shunting and also to haul certain passenger services. The Railway is also home to a 5-car Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU).
Most of the diesel locomotives are based at Kidderminster TMD. However operational diesel locomotives are also stationed at Bridgnorth, Highley and Bewdley.

From time to time other diesel locomotives visit the Severn Valley Railway:
- hired by the SVR, sometimes for extended periods.
- for galas, sometimes including a short period of running other services.
- for contract storage or maintenance, usually for short periods and sometimes for repeated visits.
