80684 arrived on the SVRSevern Valley Railway in April 1984 as one of four acquired at the time for P.W.Permanent Way work.[1] It appeared on the main line in 1985 as part of the GW 150 demonstration freight train which ran to Newport behind GWR freight loco 2857.[3]
It received an overhaul in 2006 having been stopped with damage to the axlebox casting, an issue common to these wagons as described in the article on sister wagon 80603. Storage of locomotive ash had resulted in corrosion to the steel body, so repairs to the corner uprights and end panels were also carried out.[2] A new floor was also welded in, and the wagon returned to P. Way use in February 2007.[4]
It is owned by The GWR 813 Preservation Fund.
