Talk:Diesel Locomotives visiting the SVR for galas
The table of contents for this page is a bit ridiculous, but hiding it would make it somewhat difficult to navigate the page I think. Does anyone have any ideas for making the page a bit easier to navigate? --Danny252 (talk) 15:35, 21 June 2016 (UTC)
- Possibly add level 1 headings for blocks of 5 or 10 years, and make the individual years level 2 headings. You can then limit the TOC to level 1 headings only using {{toclimit|limit=1}}. Or at least I think you can... --Robin (talk) 15:49, 21 June 2016 (UTC)
Should references to 50007 Edward Elgar and 50007 Hercules be tied together somehow?
- I've added a comment on the renaming. The entries are already linked to the 50007 Loco page, which in turn mentions the gala appearances and the renaming.--Robin (talk) 17:52, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
Prompted by Patrick's comment on Nat Pres that the first ever SVR Diesel Gala was held in May 1987, this page began with 1986 as the Stock Book 9th edition stated that the first visiting diesel was in March of that year. However SVR News suggests it was at Kidderminster as a static exhibit which explains the discrepancy.
I've added Autumn 2021. The SVR announced D8568 and BR Class 40 40106 Atlantic Conveyor as home fleet rather than hired or guests and so I haven't added them on this entry. The same will go for 33108 and 50033 in time too, I think. Should we treat these like we did 50007 and D1015 some while back and move to home fleet locos? If so we'll need to change other pages--Patrick Hearn (talk) 18:35, 3 October 2021 (UTC)
Railcar50: Class 101 DMU page shows DMCL 50170 and DMBS 50253 attended? I'm just off for a few days, so won't pick this up for a bit--Patrick Hearn (talk) 10:45, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
- Initial thoughts: The vehicles carried both numbers (50170/53170) and 50253/53253) at different times. The Preserved Railcar website which lists them as 50170 and 50253 says Many vehicles were renumbered after the introduction of TOPS and they can carry either in preservation. To avoid confusion, all vehicles are listed by their original numbers: so for 53XXX & 54XXX, look under 50XXX & 56XXX respectively. The railcar.co.uk site concurs: Class 101 Met-Camm 2,3 & 4-car DMUs; All the TOPS classes changed in later years making all vehicles Class 101. In 1983 the vehicles that were numbered in the 50xxx and 56xxx series were renumbered in the 53xxx and 54xxx series respectively.
- I'm assuming that if they have been returned to as-built condition, then they are now carrying the early 50xxx numbers, but I'll confirm for definite when they turn up. I'll also add a note on the re-numbering in the Class 101 page at the same time. I can't find a source at the moment for how were numbered during Railcar50, but it may well have been in late livery therefore 53xxx. I'll have another dig at some point to try to confirm one way or the other. --Robin (talk) 22:18, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
- Additional - I've now found confirmation that they were in late livery as 53xxx during Railcar50 on the Barrowmore Model Railway Group website. I'll update the various pages when I get a chance. The Class 101 DMU page needs a bit of history for the set including allocations, renumbering etc. --Robin (talk) 22:35, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
