It finished its working life with BR(W) at Swindon, having been fitted with a new floor by BR shortly before decommissioning. <ref name=SB9>SVR Stock Book Ninth Edition</ref> Having been condemned there, it was purchased by [[The GWR 813 Preservation Fund]] but was then 'lost', turning up in use in an engineering train at Gloucester several months later.<ref name=SVR155>SVR News 155</ref>
80684 arrived on the SVR in April 1984 as one of four acquired at the time for P.W. work. <ref name=SB9/> It appeared on the main line in 1985 as part of the [[The Severn Valley Railway on the main line#SVR Wagons used on the main line in preservation| GW 150 demonstration freight train]] which ran to Newport behind [[2857|GWR freight loco 2857]].<ref>SVR News 78</ref> It received an overhaul in 2006 having been stopped with damage to the axlebox casting, an issue common to these wagons as described in the article on sister wagon [[GWR 80603 Ballast Wagon|80603]]. Storage of locomotive ash had resulted in corrosion to the steel body, so repairs to the corner uprights and end panels were also carried out.<ref name=SVR155/> A new floor was also welded in, and the wagon returned to P. Way use in February 2007.<ref>SVR News 163</ref> It is owned by [[The GWR 813 Preservation Fund]].
