Permaquip Muscleman

The Permaquip Muscleman is a self-propelling vehicle used to lift and slew the track from side to side.

During service, No 56061 was first recorded at Northampton OTPD in February 1988 and subsequently at Walsall Tasker Street Yard up to 1992.[1]

In winter 2004-2005 the Permanent Way Department notes in SVRSevern Valley Railway News referred to use of "the ex-Worcester Network Rail "Muscleman" slewing machine" being used during track relaying work at Eardington.[2] In April 2007 it was used during the laying of the track in The Engine House which was under construction at the time.[3] In early 2009 it was used in re-laying flat-bottom track on the north side of the Worcester Road Bridge.[4]

56061 was at Titley Junction between 2013 and 2017, returning to the SVRSevern Valley Railway circa 2018.[1] The picture shows it at Highley in September 2020. In June 2023 it was among a number of items listed as due to be moved to an isolated section of track at Highley as part of a 'tidy up'.
