3802 is a GWRGreat Western Railway CollettCharles Benjamin Collett, Chief Mechanical Engineer (CME) of the Great Western Railway 1922-1941 2884 Class locomotive, designed for heavy freight work and classified 8FThe British Railways system of classifying steam locomotives by power using a number from 0, least powerful, to 9, most powerful, followed by either F for freight, P for Passenger or MT for Mixed Traffic. by BRBritish Rail or British Railways. It is a development of the Churchwood 2800 class of whiich of SVRSevern Valley Railway-resident 2857 is a member. The class has detail differences, such as a side window cab and outside steam pipes as built.
3802 in service
3802 was built in 1938 at the GWRGreat Western Railway’s Swindon Works.[1] The locomotive was withdrawn from Bristol Barrow Road depot in August 1965 and reached Barry Scrapyard in October.
3802 in preservation
3802 was purchased from BarryWoodham Brothers Scrapyard, Barry, South Wales. The source of many locomotives now in preservation. in September 1984. It is preserved at the Llangollen Railway.[2]
3802 at the SVRSevern Valley Railway
In Summer 2010 the locomotive fleet was ‘one short’ for the summer peak service, resulting in the hire of 3802 from Llangollen, utilising 7822 'Foxcote Manor's tender to save transport costs.
