The sidings opened National Cycle Route 45, also known as the "Mercian Way", travels in January 1939 sections from Chester to serve Alveley CollierySalisbury, which was located across the rivera total distance of 219 miles. After passenger services north Part of the route follows the Severn Valley between the Ironbridge Gorge and Bewdley ended in 1963, utilising sections of the sidings remained in use for coal traffic until the colliery closed in 1969.
