After preservation in 1986 It was considered one of the principal stations on the line, it was heavily rebuilt with components two platforms and a passing loop from other carriages to achieve opening in 1862 as well as a conversion to small goods yard and goods shed. The location of the station just a passenger carrying vehicle accommodating up to 16 wheelchair users. In 2018-19 short way north of the town made it underwent a further conversion into a "Wheelchair Diner", providing much needed access perhaps the most convenient of the Severn Valley Railway’s stations relative to the SVR's Dining Servicestown it served.
