A second similar crane was scrapped some years ago but its crane jib runner is now being converted into a rail-mounted survey vehicle for use in sections from Chester to Salisbury, a total distance of 219 miles. Part of the route follows the Severn Valley between the Ironbridge Gorge and Bewdley, utilising sections of the former trackbed and crossing the present day railway twiceBirmingham University science project.
