The Singing Detective was a noir-styled 1986 six-part BBC TV serial drama, written by Dennis Potter and starring Michael Gambon. Tormented and bedridden by a debilitating disease, a mystery writer relives his childhood and Chandleresque detective stories through his imagination and hallucinations, with himself in the title role. It won six BAFTAs and other awards.[1]

Filming took place in March of that year of No (4)7383 at Arley.
