The 1896 Shropshire and West Midlands Agricultural Show was held at the Old Regatta Ground, about a mile and a half north of Bridgnorth on 1 - 3 July.
At a meeting of the show committee in January, opinions were expressed that a railway siding was essential to the success of the show. The cost would be £250, with the GWRGreat Western Railway willing to accept a contribution of half that amount from the show committee. The siding would allow the simultaneous unloading of 20 horse boxes, 20 wagons and one traction engine[1]
