Content added to the SVRSevern Valley Railway Wiki is generally considered to be contributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License. In summary, work under this license may be freely used and modified by anyone else for any purpose, with the requirement that appropriate credit is given (e.g. a link to the SVRSevern Valley Railway Wiki page), and that any derived content is released under the same license.

Some content on this site is uploaded under other licences, which are noted in each case. This is most common for images, where the original author has permitted use of their material on the SVRSevern Valley Railway Wiki only.

When adding content to the site, it is important to consider copyright and sourcing

Text

In general, you should avoid copying text verbatim from another source. Instead, it is preferable re-write information in your own words, and then reference the original source - a link to a web page, or perhaps a short note identifying a book or magazine. If you do need to copy text, you should make clear that it is a quote, such as by italicising it or surrounding it with speech marks.

Images and Photographs

Most of the images you find on the internet, whilst freely viewable, cannot be copied without the author's permission. As a result, we are not able to copy their image onto this website, There are two possible solutions to this. Firstly, many authors have been cooperative when asked if their material can be used on the site, provided that appropriate credit is given -- they might even be tempted to start contributing to the Wiki! Secondly, it is always permissible to link to the original page with the image on - e.g. a flickr page, or someone's personal photo website.
