View of The Engine House from Highley Station

The Engine House is situated approximately 200 yards from Highley Station. Its architectural design has attracted polarised comments. Although originally conceived as a building to house "out-of-ticket" engines under-cover, for various reasons including attracting external funding, the project morphed into the museum that stands today. This museum was opened in 2008. Items on display include 8 steam locomotives which are awaiting overhaul, together with other items of rolling stock including The Royal Coach and a GPOGeneral Post Office Travelling Post Office (TPOTravelling Post Office) coach.

Facilities at The Engine House include a restaurant, a gift shop and an outdoor children's play area. The restaurant balcony and outdoor picnic areas overlook the line and give good views of trains leaving and arriving at Highley.
