"The SVRSevern Valley Railway Pannier Tank Fund completed the purchase from NCBNational Coal Board on 3 January 1973, but it was not delivered to the SVRSevern Valley Railway, at Bridgnorth, I believe, until 29 March 1973. Columb Howell is hopefully going to inform of why there was a near 3 months time lapse of ownership to delivery - I suspect it was due to 3 months of fundraising for the road transport cost! The attached photos, 2 inside the NCBNational Coal Board Penallta colliery steam shed at Hengoed were taken by an 'internet friend, an ex BRBritish Rail or British Railways signalman in his 80's [Michael Jackson] whom I e-mailed with following a national railway magazine article featuring the 57xxA GWR 5700 Class 0-6-0PT engine CollettCharles Benjamin Collett, Chief Mechanical Engineer (CME) of the Great Western Railway 1922-1941 0-6-0PTs."
"[It arrived] with all wheels sporting dangerous 'double flanges'. The loco had been inspected by Gordon Allen, Columb Howell, Colin Jenkins & Mike Wilkinson as representatives of 'Severn Valley Pannier Tank Fund' who selected 7714 and successfully tendered £1,750 in preference to 7754 at Mountain Ash at Mardy. Caudles delivered it by road to B'nth, where it was dismantled over a period of time & the parts transported by rail to Bewdley"
"[It returned to steam in 1992] after a dedicated restoration team had expertly tackled the mammoth rebuild task. The regular team comprised Mick Harker, Nigel Hanson, "Clever" Trevor, & Phil (Derby) Cheesewright."
"It was photographed at Swindon works [after withdrawal, before NCBNational Coal Board use] on 24 May 1959."
