Nick Paul was schooled in Worcester and attended Bristol and Warwick Universities. He is a member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering and a past member of the Institute of Management Consultants.

He joined the SVR(H) Board in 2002 and was appointed Chairman in July 2011. He has been a Severn Valley Railway life member since 1997.[1] He is also a Trustee of Severn Valley Railway Charitable Trust Ltd.

He served two terms as Chairman of Advantage West Midlands, the Regional Development Agency from 1999-2012. The RDA contributed to SVRSevern Valley Railway projects The Engine House, Highley Station Footbridge and repairs following the 2007 Storm Damage.

He was awarded a C.B.E. in the 2009 New Year honours for services to business in the West Midlands.[2]

In the past he has been Deputy Chief Executive of IMI plc, a FTSE 100 international engineering group, Chairman of Tricorn Group Plc, Chairman of the West Midlands CBI. He was the Chair of the Governors at the Downs School, Colwall Malvern and a Governor at City Technology College, Kingshurst, Birmingham. He has also been Non-Executive Director with John Laing Homes plc, SIG plc and Worcester Warriors Rugby Club.
