Goodnight Mister Tom was a 1998 made-for-TV Movie featuring John Thaw (The Sweeney, Inspector Morse, etc.), from the novel by Michelle Magorian. The plot concerns the developing friendship between a shy young WWII evacuee and the disgruntled old man with whom he is housed[1].

The fictional station in the story is Little Weirwold, although the film had a 'Weirwold' running in board.[2] Filming on the SVRSevern Valley Railway took place at Arley. The locomotive used was GWR Mogul 7325, 'weathered' in an attempt to camouflage the post-War BRBritish Rail or British Railways livery[3]. In another scene, a busy London station was needed, with Loughborough station on the Great Central Railway being chosen. However, 7325 was not able to follow the film crews; instead, 7325's number plates were temporarily transferred to GCRGreat Central Railway resident 'Modified Hall' 6990 Witherslack Hall, with a number of other differences being visible to the experienced eye!
