GWRGreat Western Railway CollettCharles Benjamin Collett, Chief Mechanical Engineer (CME) of the Great Western Railway 1922-1941 5700 class 0-6-0PT No 5786, ex-London Transport L92, is a former SVRSevern Valley Railway resident.
5786 is a sister locomotive to SVRSevern Valley Railway-based 5764 and 7714. 5786 began life with the GWRGreat Western Railway and later BRBritish Rail or British Railways(W), before (like 5764) being transferred to London Transport in 1958.
Built at Swindon in January 1930, 5786 entered service at Aberdare shed and remained in South Wales throughout its GWRGreat Western Railway and BRBritish Rail or British Railways(W) life. In 1948 it moved to Cardiff Canton, which was to be its last BRBritish Rail or British Railways depot.[1]
In 1958 it was overhauled at Swindon and transferred to London Transport where it was painted maroon and numbered L92. It operated from from Lille Bridge and Neasden depots, shunting and working maintenance trains and goods traffic.[2]
In 1969 the locomotive was purchased in working order by the Worcester Locomotive Society and moved to the SVRSevern Valley Railway, where it was steamed and restored to GWRGreat Western Railway livery.
