Engineer's Line References

Engineer's Line References are three letter codes for identifying individual routes on the UK rail network. Any bridge, or other structure, can be identified and located by its unique ELREngineer's Line Reference, East Lancashire Railway and distance from the main terminus. Many of the codes remained unchanged from pre grouping, right through nationalisation to the present day.

Those ELRs relevant to the present SVRSevern Valley Railway are;

References to "Severn Valley Branch"[1], "Tenbury & Bewdley Branch"[2] and "Oxford, Worcester & Wolverhampton"[3] can all be seen on the 1905 Ordnance Survey maps. BYK was referred to as the "Loop Line"[4]
