A General Utility Van (GUVGeneral Utility Van, formerly used to transport mail and parcels) is a type of rail vehicle built by British Rail and its predecessors, which was primarily used for transporting mail and parcels. GUVs were classified as Non Passenger Carrying Coaching Stock (NPCCS)

Following the introduction of TOPSTotal Operations Processing System, an American computer system adopted by BR from the late 1960s to number and manage rolling stock. in the late 1960s, a basic GUVGeneral Utility Van, formerly used to transport mail and parcels was allocated the TOPS classification NIV, denoting N=Non-passenger carrying stock, I=General Utility Van, V=Vacuum braked only.

Other variants of GUVGeneral Utility Van, formerly used to transport mail and parcels within the SVRSevern Valley Railway examples are:

NJx: General Utility Van Electric Wired 90mph
