Goods Wagons

Crane runner B 707261 was resident on the SVRSevern Valley Railway between 1982 and 2021. It began life as a Container Flat (CONFLAT A), built by BRBritish Rail or British Railways at Ashford in 1957.[1] It was later converted for use as a crane runner for Hand Crane GWR 446, the crane and runner being numbered I/U 060982 and 060983 respectively[2].

Preservation

The hand crane and crane runner arrived on the SVRSevern Valley Railway on 6 December 1982 from Bristol, having been acquired by The GWR 813 Preservation Fund.[3] Both spent some time stored in the ‘Stourport Triangle’, the junction of the Stourport Branch and the present day SVRSevern Valley Railway south of Bewdley. In January 2019 it was announced that the crane was to move to Arley for cosmetic restoration as a static display, while the crane runner would be swapped with a GWR flat wagon that would better suit the crane.[4] In March 2019 the crane and runner were moved to Bewdley and in May to Arley.

In May 2019 the GWRGreat Western Railway 813 Preservation Fund expected the vehicle would move to the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway[5], although that sale was never completed and by August 2019 it was for sale again.[6] In July 2021 it moved to the Nene Valley Railway, having been sold.
