Simon Magus was a 1999 British mystery film directed by Ben Hopkins and starring Stuart Townsend, Rutger Hauer, Sean McGinley, Noah Taylor and Ian Holm.[1]

The film is set in 19th century Silesia (then in Prussia, now in Poland)[2], where a new railway line is to be driven between two villages. Whichever one gets a station will prosper, the other will not. Scenes featuring GWR Pannier 7714 were filmed on the SVRSevern Valley Railway in the spring of 1998. The locomotive was "...thinly disguised in an attempt to make it look Polish by putting masking tape over its smokebox and builder's plate and a few Polish eagle stickers on the tank sides"[3].
